Embroidery Studio diary
Life in Stitches
You can find articles about inspiration & ideas for embroidery, experiments, and sometimes mishaps. The Journal is a constant work in progress with sneak peeks into my world and the creative (sometimes chaotic) projects happening in The Studio.
Crewel Work Reflections
I wanted to finish my crewel embroidery inspired by William Morris within a week since my last post (3 weeks ago) and I did - Well almost....
Now where was I...????
I rarely tend to make notes or stitch plans in advance, but this time I really wish I had!
Some Crewel progress
I find that when embroidering mirror image designs, I always get a better result when I stitch both sides roughly at the same time... if I (as I would like) move on to something else and then come back to it days or weeks later - I am less likely to get the pair looking the same.
Changing projects
I always prefer to work on colour selections during the day and with this grey scale it is even more important as the tones of the grey yarns change completely at night.
Crewel & Colour
Sometimes, often actually, getting colours just right can require a little bit of revers stiting.
Getting started
I have made a good start on my new crewel work design and just quickly wanted to share a snippet of it with you.
Peacock & Dragon
Inspiration for design is a fickle thing. It is not always easy to point a finger at exactly where inspiration comes from. For me, ideas for designs can linger for a long time at the back of my mind.
Embroidered edges
I had made the Mountain Oak into a pillow before I went overseas last month, but the more I looked at it, the more unfinished it looked...
