Crewel embroidery was often used to decorate large bed hangings with extravagant floral patterns and I wanted Scarlet Glory to look as if it is perhaps a fragment of a much larger piece. The colour palette of burnt orange, terra cotta and pinks gives it a warm, contemporary appearance.
The embroidery is stitched onto Italian linen, using 25 different embroidery stitches to create different textures and patterns within the design. The detailed instructions and diagrams will help guide you step by step through the project however, you might find it helpful to have a stitch directory at hand – I always do.
