Thistle & Rose is suitable for embroiders with some experience. This is an ideal project if you are familiar with crewel work and are looking to further develop your skills.
The design is stitched with 26 shades of Appleton’s crewel wool and silver metallic threads onto light taupe linen twill. The embroidery is stitched using 26 mostly common embroidery stitches. The detailed instructions will help guide you step-by-step through the project; however, you might find it helpful to have a stitch directory at hand as individual stitches are not included in the diagrams.

YOU WILL ALSO NEED:
50cm (20”) wide tape slate frame; 1m x 2cm wide (40” x 3/4”) cotton tape and thin cord for lacing
OR 45cm (18”) square stretcher frame and thumbtacks
Beeswax
Mellor or dressmakers’ awl
Embroidery scissors
Sharp lead pencil (mechanical pencil)
Please NOTE; it is not recommended to use a hoop (ring frame) for this project due to the size and use of metallic threads.
