The Miniature Winter Bright Hellebore is designed as a small introduction to raised embroidery also known as stumpwork. It is a perfect project if you are familir with common embroidery stitches and have a little experience in working with fine threads.
The tiny project fits perfectly on the lid of a small box or music box.
The joy of raised embroidery is the combination of raised and padded elements that makes the embroidery come together and brings it to life.
When looking for ideas for a new class project, I was inspired by the beautiful soft shades in a skein of silk thread. The colours reminded me of the dainty colouring of Hellebore flowers. The white hellebore is commonly known as Christmas rose. With its crisp white flowers among the first to bloom in early spring, it is a cheerful reminder that warmer weather is on its way. The beautiful silk that inspired the design is used for the flowers in this project. Winter Bright Hellebore features an elegant stem with multiple raised flowers, buds and leaves. A cheeky little snail is making her way up the slender stem.
